Book Review: The Twisted Series by Ana Huang

I finished reading the Twisted series by Ana Huang earlier this month after starting Twister Love in January and thought I would do a small review for my fellow book lovers. Overall, I thought the series was brilliant. As a person who hates to dedicate months if not years to book series, I absolutely adored this series and struggled to put the books down.

Huang has created a series of books which can be read together or as stand-alone's which I love. She makes sure each novel focuses on the main characters while still intertwining the plots of the other novels without it getting too confusing or the plot going off track. I also love how she intertwines each novel and foreshadowed future relationships. She creates brilliant chemistry between the characters with the friendships feeling genuine and not forced - I can't help but feel jealous of the girl's friendship within this series!

This series was kind of an escapism for me which I love (mainly the reason why I read) however in some parts it felt too unrealistic - after all you don't have someone who will walk you home in the dark repeatedly to ensure you're safe and in some parts, it feels a bit too perfect for example the way Alex can somehow find blackmail material for all members of the Eldorian government so Bridget and Rhys can get married. The books are also very predictable - the main characters hate to admit they like each other, their feelings for each other are revealed, everything is perfect, they have a falling out over miscommunication, realise they love each other and then there is a resolution i.e. they live happily ever after. My favorite part, however, was the Epilogue in Twisted Lies the fourth and final book in the series which gave us an insight into the characters future together and that it in fact did all work out. The part I disliked the most was the similar personalities of all the male main characters, hard exterior on the outside and softie on the inside but only for their girl. I mean I really do love that trope, but it gets a bit repetitive after the second book.

Twisted Love

In all honesty, this was not my favorite book in the series. Alex was slightly too brooding and "I will kill for you" in my opinion. Also, the way he walked Ava home every night when she asked him not to, was a bit creepy and personally I would have got a restraining order. However, I did love how Alex helped Ava get over her fear of swimming - so adorable.

The reason I rate this book 3 stars is because I did not expect this to turn into a crime/mystery. It felt slightly forced for me and there was no sort of warning whatsoever this was going to happen.

Twister Games

I absolutely adored this book. The way Rhys protected Bridget with his life was utterly adorable and made me jealous of their relationship. Huang's writing had definitely improved since the previous novel, and I felt like at certain points I was living Bridget's life and could feel what she felt - the constant pressure and weight on her shoulders.

Twisted Hate

I have a love-hate relationship with this book (get it). I loved the whole enemies with benefits trope; however, it was very obvious that the two would end up together in the end. I love Jules but the way she lied to Josh when he would have just helped her really angered me and at one point, I threw my book. I highly disliked Josh, however. The way he tricked Jules and lied to her about forgiveness just to get sex out of her infuriated the feminist within me. Personally, I would have not gone back to him.

Twisted Lies

This was my absolute favorite in the series. Christan is an absolutely amazing and well written character and I love the way he is with Stella, always wanting to treat her right and keep her safe. I also adore Stella. At times I genuinely wanted to reach through the pages and give her a hug, similar to Bridget, I could feel the genuine weight on her shoulders and the anxiety she felt - I could relate more to Stella than I could Bridget with her being a princess/queen.

Overall, I loved this series. Huang's writing is absolutely beautiful and has created a whole world that has buried itself in my brain forever. I would also like to thank Huang for getting me out my reading block and also giving me the incentive to read more book series.

Thanks for reading :)
